Anyone know if I can use a 500W Halogen work light for a few hours temporarily until i can get my MH ballast up and working? I figured I could use it for just a few hours tomorrow to give the corals something to work with. Or would this do more harm than good, going from 150W MH one day, to 500W halogen the next day and then to 250W MH the next day? Would it actually be better to allow them darkness for a day or two? Maybe it would actually be beneficial?

Thanks

It will do the corals no good, it is pure red spectrum. The algae will love you tho.

Better to leave the tank dark IMHO.

Yep likely more harm than good.

ok thanks guys, TimSalty mentioned to me that leaving them with nothing but ambient room light might actually be more like a natural occurrence than switching the lights out like that...LOL

i concur after thinking about it and seeing your responses, thanks
