View Full Version : Koralia 3 in a 75 question

I have had 2 #3s in my 75 gallon softie tank for a couple weeks now. I have heard about their dispersed flow, but it seems no matter how I point them or where they are in the tank, someone is going to get blasted. I am thinking about moving them lower in the tank so that they'll wash around the live rock and not blowing across any of the coral.

Any tips or tricks to using these things?

Thanks!

I'm running 2 X #4 in my 75, and I have a mixed reef. Both of mine are directed (pointed/tilted) slightly upward, so that none of the corals are being "blasted" directly.

I have found that 3's are too much in that tank I have a 120 and only use 2' and 1's, anything more is too much for my softies.

i guess it has to do with the tank shape and size too, i have two #3's in my 75 hex along with the two loc line return nozzles from the mag 9.5 return pump and things are doing nicely, great flow and love it, but i am able to mount my two #3's high in the tank, well away from the bottom so i guess that helps

I have a #3 and a #4 in a 46g bow front I have them both about 4 finger lengths from the top angled toward the front glass and a little to the top. I get great surface aggitation and about 46x turnover. I have my softies and lps low and guarded by rock that block flow and the sps grow like crazy up top. If you have newer koralia power heads I would recommend not using the flow director and snail guard. I get better movement without them and havent had a snail commit suicide yet.

Have they come up with a wave making device for these yet? I just purchased 2 #4's for my 120g and would like to put them on some sort of on/off cycle.

Hydor doesn't recommend for those pumps to be turned off and on as far as I know, they're meant to run continuously.

Most likely they wont because they have a rough start.

Thanks for the reply. Thought I read somewhere on one of these threads that there was a controller that would just slow the pump down but not shut it off completely therefore avoiding the hard startup. I'll try to find it and post.

same here, i dont use the front "guards", they dont snap on too well to begin with and also lessen flow a little and they also focus the flow, without the guard thing it has a much wider softer flow pattern while moving more water at the same time

Thanks Paul, I'm glad to see that they came out with this. It will definately be worth looking at.

I moved them down from the top and angled up and that seems to work a lot better. Thanks for the tips!
