Thinking about Keeping SPS, and I've seen quite a bit of SPS tanks that are kept Bare bottom. Why Is that?

Don't you lose the benefits of a sand bed

visually appealing
micro fauna
beneficial bacteria

what does the removal of a sand bed do to benefit such tanks? I personally think its not appealing, and have seen just as many SPS tanks being kept with a Sand bed.

Your personal opinions and experiences are greatly Appreciated, as well as pictures.

What is it about SPS tanks that keeping them bare bottom is beneficial? Same applies to Deep Sand beds, and average depth 2-3"

Well its all about the flow and exporting nutrients.

High flow and sand does not usually mix (sand storms)

Also, since detritus has nowhere to hide you can keep your tank @ zero nitrates quite easily.

Xenon, just means we've done this before. It's one of the tireless (yet unfortunate) debates from the anals of RC.

Truthfully there is no reason to open a new thread on this subject. IMO there is no shortage of DSB/BB threads on this forum.
