I have a quietone 6000 setup inline on my 125g tank didnt turn it on until the other day and had a temp jump of about 2 or 3 degrees. Seems a little high to me but i thought id ask?

My 3000 model never affected the temperature in my tank, but I have seen Little Giants nearly cook tanks, so it is certainly possible.

A 6000 on a 125 is a whole lotta flow!

Is It really? it pumps about 1500 gph. I also have i Iwaki 40rlxt and another quietone 3000 for my sump return. However I was considering replacing the quiet one with 2 Koralia 4s for the heat and because the quietone isnt exactly quiet.

Yea I think the smaller pumps they have work fine. But the big ones arent too great. I had a few horrible experiences with the 9000s but anyways does anyone think id have a noticable temp difference adding 2 korralia 4's?

On my QuietOne 3000, it can start up spinning in two modes. One mode is a little noisier and uses a few more watts (according to the Kill-A-Watt). The second mode is quieter and uses less electricity. The pump is older, so it likely depends on where the prop stopped spinning when I pulled the plug.
I just plug/unplug until I get the quieter mode.
If this is the case for you, the noisier mode consumes more power and in turn could be the cause of the heat.

My 4000 ran hot enough I could not hold my hand on it for long. I switched to Ocean Runner pumps and my temp went down 2 to 3 degrees immediately.

was that on your 100 gallon? I was probably just going to get a koralia or two to replace it so i wouldnt have to replumb anything.

I use a OR 3500 for a return, a closed loop with an OR 3500 and Oceans Motions Squirt two way and 2 Koralia #4s for flow.

I'm running a Quiet one 6000 on my 110g show which is 30" tall so the top of the tank is about 5' high. I was using the 3/4" output adapter until I realized that I was only getting about 700gph of flow and it's rated at 1200gph @ 5' of head unrestricted. When I switched to 1" return line the temp dropped about 1 deg. I would guess that I'm getting closer to 1000gph now but I would still like more. I'm not sure if the temp drop was due to less load on the pump or better air exchange/evaporation.
I'm going to try the Ocean Runner 6500 next month and see if I can get the temp down a little more. It's rated at around 1300gph at 5' and uses 30% less power.
