Greetings from the CT Reef Society-
I know it is early to start this but... the June 8th meeting of CTARS is going to be at my school's coral propagation project in Storrs, CT (right on Uconn's campus) and we are looking to do a "frag farmers market" where people who grow their frags can bring along a bunch of their stuff and sell it to people in attendance. Lots of us have frag racks, tanks, systems, etc... and I'm sure you guys are the same, having lots of corals that you have grown out. People would be able to come and actually see the corals that you have rather than buy them based on either descriptions, or poorly taken pictures (including mine). My project at the school is all about getting kids involved in coral propagation research and the environmental benefits of growing our own corals, so I thought it would fit nicely to run this at the school. Shooting for something similar to what F+S have once a year. We all would love to go, but it is a long ride for a few frags, so lets try to do one in the area.
The deal will be (as of now atleast) that for a $25 donation to the school project you will be able to set-up a "booth" at the market. For the $25, we will provide a 10 gallon tank (I may have some 20's as well) and heated water if you want it. You will bring along your frags, a light of some sort (sorry, can't do that for $25!), and water, if you want to use your own.
I am looking for the people who grow out their stuff and would like to "sign-up" to have a booth at the meeting. I don't have a max number of booths in mind but when I actually figure it out, it will be first come first served for the space. I will be opening up space for people from CT, Boston, and anyone else who wants to come. I also wanted to give people a few months to frag and grow their stuff to get ready for the meeting. The more farmers we have, the better for everyone!
We would also probably have a raffle and such, like a typical CTARS meeting, perhaps with frags from the different people???
Contact me for details, questions, suggestions for people you would like to have come, ideas, or if you want to sign up!
Thanks!
Jon
