Hi,
I bought a B & W clownfish(tank raised) about 3 weeks ago and i'm worried about him. He has been swiming in the current pretty much all the time and he's hyperactive. He has stringy white poo too. He's eating very well and has no other signs of illness.

I would really like to know what's wrong with him before i medicate. I have some Metronidzole, some Kanaplex and some Focus all from Seachem and reef safe. I also have some Polyp Lab Medic but i think it's only for Ick and velvet.

Any of you have an idea about his problem? Do you think it's parasitic or bacterial? Any way of knowing which is it?
Please help
Thanks

Stringy poo can be a sign of intestinal parasites or simply diarrhea.

If a parasite then you can "deworm" the fish by placing it into a QT and treating but "stringy poo" is pretty common and many just ignore.

Here's a link discussing how to treat the intestinal parasite.

Hope this helps.

Ok but do you have any idea why he would be swimming in the current like this ?
Thanks for the help :)

Clowns swimming in the current of PH is pretty common .. not necessarily a sign of any illness.

Oh and the poo is whitish

Clown is shedding thin layer of intestins to "shed" the parasite.

Ok then, would metromed (metronidazole) be a good to give him?

If its a protozoan problem .. yes. But if its a nematode problem then piperazine would be better. To my knowledge there is no method of determining whether its nematode or protozoan problem. When I deworm I usually treat with both meds (back to back)

Check out your LFS/Petco's and look at products that have that ingredient ... used to be sold as Hex a Mit but I think the mfg went toes up.

Ok thanks, i know my lfs doesn't have it but i'll try to find it online. Meanwhile i'll start treatment with metronidazole. Thanks for the help.
