i have a small frag of green star polyps that got beat up in another tank. i am slowly nursing them back to good health in my tank. i have not secured them in my tank and have alot of flow so before i glue em in i want to ask where would be a good spot in my tank.

Do they like high flow areas?

i have 2 250w halides over my 18inch tank. how high or low should i put them?

heres some pictures just for fun

GSP will out growing your tank regardless flow and light, but they spread quicker in low light/flow area.

so your saying it doesnt matter where i put them but aim more towards the bottom of the tank in a low flow area?

is 55 to little for gsp coral? or are you just saying they grow like weed?

Oh..you don't want them to attached to a rock. They'll will take over the rock and everything around it. Try attach the piece to the back glass or on an isolated rock.

They can be like xenia, but kaulk paste or Joes juice will kill them if they start to overgrow something.

I had a bigger problem with my pink star polyps than I did xenia. The PSP just grows everywhere and anywhere.

Keep the GSP isolated. If you don't they will cover anything they come in contact with.
"Weed" is a good discription for them.

Even if you do keep them isolated they will try to grow across the sand and onto other rocks. Mine grew soo fast they made it on to 4 other rock I didn't want them on. I scrubed the rocks with a hard bristle brush and in aweek or two they were right back. I love them but they are very invasive.

I have 2 150 watt halides on my 90 gal. I have always had better luck with them up high (top of the reef) or even on the back glass. They like very random flow. IME. but yea they are a weed. I get 1/4" of growth all the way around them in a week.

Mine have spread to cover a 12"x10" rock in about three months. Looks real natural but they are going to have to go as they are getting closer and closer to my other corals. They have about 2 weeks before they start taking over some AoG zoas.

I've seen GSP recover from a much worse state than yours is in; that frag will be double the size in no time. It grows exponentially, so watch out -- you'll have a monster on your hands before you know it :)

GSP can definitely be a weed, and IME it will thrive in just about any situation, but it seems to love fairly high random flow, and lots of light.

can i see some GSP pictures to see how it grows?

Sure, here's one from a while back... every month this beast puts on about another inch in every direction. The colony started out as a teeny tiny frag, not much larger than your pic above.

The great thing about them is... once you nurse them back to health... they will be so thankful... they will over-run the corals you put them next to...

They're like fat chicks... Give them an inch, they'll take a donut!

wow! nice to see im not the only insomniac checking reef central all the time :D Hah! It's so true. I'm actually not a true insomniac; I have chronic pain issues, and when the pain is really bad I tend to come here to distract myself. I can't sleep, so I might as well surf :D

GSP is the devil... You do not want it anywhere in your tank it can spread... I've heard it will not grow on sand.. I would not have it anywhere in my system. I would not even trust the spores from spread via water..

It's worse than a fat chick...
