Alright all you do it yourself folks, im constructing an 8'x2' tank with either 18" or 24"height. I plan on using either 1/2" or 3/4" acrylic. I can make a rather large lip/eurobrace design, that doesn't bother me. But can i get away with 1/2"? I think its a possibility seems how im not planning on making the tank too high. Thanks in advance!

1/2 inch is good up to 24 inch height and you will need to euro brace it with a at least 2 inch lip and i would make it have 2 or 3 cross braces leaving you like 3 or 4 holes in the top for access.
If you do decide to do this please post pics i love to see DIY acrylic tanks i make them myself.

That isn't necessarily true. A tank 12" long and 24" tall 1/2" would be overkill, a tank 120" long and 24" high, 1/2" wouldn't work at all. It is all relative to the length and height. For the above 8' tank, you could use 3/4". According to my calculator it is just over 3/4" that is recommended (.787), so it is your call between that or 1".
