found this at a lfs a couple of weeks ago. love the orange color. the pic is very washed out compared to real life. it also has bright green splashes and a little purple as well. we are thinking either acan or some kind of weird chalice. I know I saw a post somewhere and two people had posted pics of the same thing asking for ids but I can't remember where I saw it. Any help would be appreciated cause this is driving me nuts. We get lots of comments on it. BTW the piece is about 2.5 inches long by about 2 inches wide.

Looks like Acanthastrea echinata to me. I have one almost exactly like it.

Mike, thanks for the quick response. I didn't realize that echinata polyps were so large. There are lots of different acans in the tank, not all have positive ids. the main polyp is bigger than any acan in the tank except the hillae/moseleya that we just got (bought it as a hillae). The polyps are nearly the same size. How big is the biggest polyp in the picture you posted?

Approximately 3/4" to 1" at most. The size of that main polyp of yours makes me think twice about my ID :)
