I now have two of the same test kits because I ran out of reagents in one of them. Can the remaining reagents be used with a new kit or is it best to just chuck it all and use the new one only?

Without knowing what the reagents are or what the concentration is, I don't see how it can be used with a different brand, or even a redesign of the same kit. If it is exactly the same kit, that works fine. :)

I think my main question is it it alright to use old reagents with a new kit of the same type. The new kit has only changed in that the reagent bottles are different, the lids actually...

Depends on how old and what reagents. The reagents in an alkalinity kit are good for a long time. Calcium maybe not so long.
