I have had 3 in my tank before and they were fine. One died about a year ago when I had to go out of town for 3 months, the remaining are loving life. But I have heard that they do best by themselves unless they were a mated pair. Maybe I was just lucky.

Groups have the potential to spread aggression.

I bought two thinking they were a pair. Maybe they were, they stayed in the same burrow in the beginning. After a few months, they now have opposite ends of the 6 ft tank. Started with two and still have two, but they are divorced I think.

Depends on a variety of factors. If they are a mated pair, they will coexist happily. If they are not, you can get away with it if you have a long tank (not necessarily large gallonage).

I orig. put 6 together and after 3 months, 5 are still together the missing one never showed up. They seem to cohab without much problem. Once in a while, one will dart at another but none stay hidden.
