i used chaeto in my qt tank for a while for pods, i put a clump in there, feed a small amount of flake food, and when i see alot of them i put the ball on a veggie clip in the display for a day or so

no it grows it
It feeds it. You left a few things off the list including amounts and such. You cant put Miracle Grow in some RO water and turn a light on and have phyto. It's not that easy.

See the pod culture thread in the advanced section. I set up a tank about a week ago to raise pods. Easy and cheap, we'll see how it turns out.
