Is this a pistol shrimp?

That huge red claw makes me pretty sure, but I'd like some input on this little guy. He's a LR hitchhiker.
Is he likely to grow up and wreak havoc in my tank?

Yep, that is a pistol.
I just put one back in my tank. Most people say they should be fine, although there is always the chance you could have the exception.
I would give it a try, especially at that size.

Pistol shrimp are perfectly reef safe. I have had them in every one of my reef tanks. You will need to get him a goby someday though as pistol shrimps are blind. A "watchman" type goby is like a seeing eye dog for a blind person.

The gody will watch out for the shrimp, and in return the shrimp will share his home with the goby.
