Well it's been awhile since I've had a reef system in my home and I've missed it greatly. I've been chomping at the bit to get a new set-up going and I thought I had a 65 gallon really close to being started when a new opportunity presented itself. I just came home tonight with my new Oceanic 150 Extra Tall. Plumbed for a close loop with an Oceans Motions Squirt. I'm going to build a refugium out of a 40 breeder and add a Bullet 2 skimmer. I am thinking about using flexible tubing on my standpipes and rigid PVC on the return because it will be a straight shot up to the tank. I'm going with a T5 lighting set-up, brand still up in the air, open to suggestions. I'll try to get pics up soon. I've got a little cleaning to do and a little plumbing but I hope to be able to fill'er up by next weekend. This is my first big reef tank and any guidance is welcome.

Okay did a little research and I think I'm going to use flexible tubing for my drains and my return.

You are a little far from me but I have some 1.5" and 1" grey spa flex. I would be willing to sell at a good price.......

Why flex for the return? Just a gut feeling, but I would think the hard-plumbed would transfer more energy and give you better flow...

That's what I thought too but I read a couple of threads and I was getting the impression that flex would cut down on the water noise through the pipe.

Nanoreef,

I am in Chester Springs and I have used Spaflex for my tank and love it. I have a ton of leftover plumbing supplies (unions, elbows, couplers, tees, etc) and some spaflex and solid pvc tubing if you want it...

it is mostly 1.5", but there is some 1 inch.

Fraggin and rodstar, thanks so much for the hospitality and the supplies. I went to Home Depot after and got most of the plumbing supplies I needed. I'm now several steps closer to getting the water in the glass...and hopefully not on the floor...

NP Jay.
make sure your bulkheads are snug enough too, i had a small drip on one of mine, a few months after it was done.

LMk know when its up, have some macro and a cup of sand if you need it. also sending a pm on those lights.

I just got back from Something Fishy. It was everything people say. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, especially Steve. I picked up all my bulkheads and my Loc-Line as well as a Seio 1500 and a skimmer. I was hoping to get my fuge baffles in tonight but unfortunately Lowes closed just as I got there to get the glass. Oh well, there is always tomorrow...

Do you still want the spa flex?

Yes I do. I won't need quite as much though. Since everything is coming together I'm getting a better idea so maybe more like 10 feet.

Jay! Welcome to the club! Let me know what I can do to help. I just got dine plumbing a new 75g sump and a 30g fuge after the last one cracked. I have some extra plumbing parts if needed but more importantly some plumbing experience!

Hope to see you at a meeting soon too. This month's is at Angel's house.

I don't think I can make it to Angel's. My brother in law is having a birthday party for my niece. I still have to find out what time the party is. What time is Angel having people over?

I finally got the parts together for the fuge and assembled it tonight.
Leak test is getting closer...
