I wanted to do a 5" riser neck and 8.5" reaction chamber, but how do i make it so that the collection cup is water tight yet removeable? I wanted to get a 5" pvc union, but all I see is 4" max and they're really expensive. Is there any easier cheaper way to do the removeable cup? TIA.

Make an acrylic flange and tap holes in it and use vinyl screws. Take a look at barraquatics

Check out the plastic floor drains at the hardware store. May be big enough.

I was thinking that too at first, but I wanted the bottom flange to have an 8.5" opening and the top flange to have a 5" opening but still have the outer ring of the flange be the same to be able to seal them. I ordered 10" acrylic circles instead and will make my own. Thanks for the input guys.

Make sure you buy a good tap-do not go cheap! It should run no more than $10. I went for an off brand a few years back and it snapped off in the plastic. Good luck with your build

thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely look into it, I'd hate to have that issue considering I didn't buy any extra circles. Any idea on how to easily make the key hole part on the top flange? Or would you just thread both flanges?

I would use a router or have someone that is experienced with one make the key holes. If not you could use a slow drill press with two different sized bits.
Also make sure to buy bits that are made for drilling acrylic and not wood.

You can probably get the nylon screws and tap there as well. good luck

I have used one of the thicker plastic cd or dvd cases that they come in.
