Probably as many as you want, they are aggressive nor teritorial, so I would say 7-10 easily.

Do you mean fire fish, or fire goby, I'm not sure what a fire goby is, but fire fish do not like eachother, if you don't get a compatable male-female pair they usually end up killing eachother. There have been other threds on the subject, in stores when you have several and fish being moved in or out the agression is dissipated by stress and new surroundings, in your tank, even a 75, they will get comfortable and then the agression begins. If you are talking about a different fish I disreguard the above.

I agree, firefish DEFINENTLY fight. Every Tank I have seen with more tha one, they always have battle wounds. (ie. torn off dorsal fins)

It is possible to get a successful pair, but you either have to get lucky or get a few and watch for a pair to form. I got lucky with mine.

I have an orange firefish and a purple one, and they get along fine. They mostly ignore each other. FWIW.

Do not assume that they will continue to do so. Highly unlikely.

I also must have got lucky and have a pair. I had a trio, but one got beat up pretty bad and didn't make it. I added them all at the same time. They were cool for a few weeks, then the aggresion started.

howesholder - wow, I heard that the Purple were a little more aggresive. I was told they would not mix well with the regular ones.

Anyone housing a Chromis with Firefish? I know they are pretty timid and I wonder what would happen since the Firefish are already well established in the tank.

I just added some chromis on thurs, firefish are well established 3month+. At the moment they all ignore each other, but the firefish were not the dominant fish in the tank prior to the chromis addition.
