three questions:

1. will constant weekly water changes w/ ro/di in my 40gal eliminate the hair algea in my tank?

2. how do I get rid of hair algea that's choaking out a polyp rock?

3. how can I plumb my waste water line on ro/di to go directly into sink drain ptrap? drill it and silicon? or willl that leak when the sink drains?

3. I plumbed mine to water the tree in the back yard and provide a spot for the birds to get a drink. Why waist the filtered water down the drain if you could reuse it.

You need what is called a "Saddle tee" which bolts around the P trap and you drill through.

RO/DI by itself is not going to solve your problem but it is a start in the right direction.
You need to eliminate the source of the nitrates the algae is feeding on, probably lower feedeing, reduced lighting, good housekeeping, maybe a fewturbo snails......

too bad you didn't have a tang. I had a frag that I just got w/ polyps and shrooms. It had hair algae on it. I separated it and put it on the sand bed, and let the tang pick off the algae. He did a great job. Its now ready to introduce to the rest of the stack.
