Yup, they're fine. The leather needs some time but it will acclimate...and boy do they grow when they're happy!

how do i feed my plate other than dropping it on it.

The plate would like bits of raw shrimp placed ontop of his mouth. I would have to cover mine to keep the fish from stealing his meal.Look here.

You can also try Cyclopeeze or frozen baby bryne and mix with some tank water and inject slowly around the mouth at feeding time. Small particulate matter like this is fine food and common for them on the reef. It's not like Mysis just rains down on them in the wild:)
