got a bit of a hair algae problem. nitrates, nitrites, amonia, phosphate are all at 0, ph was a little low maybe 7.8. added some buffer to get it up. I use ro/di but the filters are about a yr old, just ordered new ones, but the water that comes out of it still reads 0 with the phosphate test kit. Halides are coming up to about a year old run about 6 hours a day. I have a 180 that was set up in Sept but it was set up for about 6 months prior and I took 75% of the water and the rock that was in the original tank. doing once a week water changes of about 35 gallons and manually pulling it off. any ideas? is it time to switch out the lights? any help would be appreciated
thanks,
mark

Not sure if this helps, but
I had the same problem last summer when my aquarium was 6 months old. Parameters were fine, was having to clean my glass everyday. Turns out, I have an 8 foot sliding glass door about 10 feet from my aquarium that catches the morning sun. Once I covered the glass doors with mirrored film, I was able to control the algae by conventional methods.
I have read on here, people with similar problems (aquarium in rooms with lots of windows and daylight) solving the problem the say way. (Just my 2cents)

thanks but that's not it, the tank is in the basement. Only one window way over to one side, the sun doesn't hit it, thanks though

Another option maybe,
I read a thread on RC this week about someone who went and bought fresh water Mollies from his fish store and acclimated them to salt water (about 6 hour process) before he released them in the tank.
From what he said they turned out to be algae eating fools. Hmm

that's funny you say that, I had someone come over to buy frags from me last night who had the same idea. The problem is you can't get them out once they are done
