Love my JBJ nanocube.

Here's a link to pics of my current JBJ 28g nanocube with nanotuner's actinic mod.

Here's a link to my old 24g nanocube. I took off the stock hood and put on a Sunpod 150W MH over it.

All are the same tank over 2 years:

My advice would be to start with the best lighting you can get at the start.
I am tearing down the recent version of this tank to setup a JBJ 28g Nanocube.

Heres my BioCube. Iam still getting & moving things....also rethinking the anemone. I like him but he's getting way to big Plus there are a lot of things I want but cant have because of him.Iam also getting the 3.24 light upgrade from nanotuners.

Anyone out there that want some awesome upgrades to make your water chrystal clear. let me know......you can PM me.

The upgrades came right from the BIG fish / RC staff

Well I was told by my local lfs that jbj is a piece of crap but I do not think that....I was talking to someone at nanotuners and they said that if I just wanted to do softies and shrooms with maybe some lps that I could go with the stock lighting....I would like to maybe try a 24 gallon but I am still unsure if the 12 would be my best bet.....thanks everyone

I would challenge him to explain why JBJ is crap since all three primary cube makers are manufacturing a nearly identical product.

I suppose you could argue that the fans or the lighting system is of higher quality in one versus another, because they may be getting their components from different places, but the rest is ceteris paribus. And if he can't articulate what specifically makes the JBJ inferior, I wouldn't take the opinion to heart. I had a 12 gallon JBJ and miss it--wish I had kept it instead of switching to AGA nanos

You should decide what fish you want to keep, then choose the 12 or 24 based upon that rather than come at it from the other direction.

I have a 12 gallon nanocube that sits on my cubical desk. I have not done any mods and use the stock lighting. I keep softies and a few LPS. Here is an older picture - which reminds me I should bring the cameral in to work to update my picture.

i just bought 28g hqi, had several quality issues with it. jbj 's customer service was kinda iffy.

I recently got a 24 gallon dx, stock lighting. I love it - couldn't be happier:)

thanks everyone.....I am just not sure what to do....corals I just want to start out small I mean like mushrooms....and for fish probably just some clowns but I know that clowns in a 12 are alot crapped for space than a 24....just want something I can plug up and not really have to worry about anything but I guess if it was that easy everyone would do this hobby....anymore advice?

If you just want basic corals you can use stock lighting without any problems. If you really want clowns, spend the money now and get a 24. You'll quickly find that you'll use up the extra space:)
Also, the more gallons, the easier it is to take care of as fluctuations in water parameters are less.

You don't need halide for a nano. If you just want shrooms and softies, the pc lighting that comes with most nano all-in-ones would be fine. You can even keep most lps under those as well. The only reason you would need halides or something stronger than pc's is if you want sps which will be a ways down the road. In fact, if you get halides for shrooms and softies you'll burn most of them.
