I had no idea they were still in business actually. My first tank, almost exactly 16 years ago, was an O'dell. Ive still got it today, and while its only a 10g, Ive never had any problems with leakage, etc.

Got a 55gal 3/8" thick glass O'dell that was bought back in 1984 - still intact - no Leaks (hope Murphy isnt reading this LOL :) )
very well constructed but I think they were bought out by All-Glass/Perfecto but not sure... There were some comments from fellow Reefers about using polarized sun glasses to view the glass and if it was tempered it have a specific pattern to it... I can say on our 55, the sides are regular "green" glass but not sure on the bottom, i think those were tempered...

Wow that's kind of thick glass for a 55 gallon isnt it?

Yep, thats what I thought when I got it....but the 2 previous 55's that i had just bought from my LFS had the thinner 1/4 glass and 1 had a seam leak and the other split literally right down the middle as i was filling it (both were all-glass i believe) so the LFS owner upgraded me to the O'dell and even dropped it off at my house for me...Now that was Customer service back in the day :)

Sounds good to me. I suppose the thicker glass would make it slightly more rigid which would in turn cause the tank to require the silicone to bend less which would keep the seal better.

As long as we're talking about vintage tanks, I have a pretty cool (6 gallons?) tank with a silver frame and the bottom is made out of this strange textured glass. I kept a few ornamental goldfish in there for a while and it was a nice nostalgia.

I bought a new 135 gal. O'dell tank back in 1976 it was 18"x 72" had 5/8" glass in the front, back and bottom with no cross brace on the top of the tank, it was a very well made tank.........wish I still had it!!!............if the tank you bought is in good shape, you got a good tank!!..they just don't make them like that any more..........but for the life of me, I just can't remember if it was tempered glass........sorry

yeah it has some scratches but its doesnt bother me. however it has some "water spots" it weird looking. I used windex to try to get it of the outside but no difference. Im going to try vinegar today. LOL this tank has to weight about a 100Lbs. There is no top braces going across the tank like you mentioned BRG.

I still have a 300 Gallon O'Dell that I bought in 1978. It has not seen water for a few years but I plan to in the spring. Glass was very thick as it was made without a center brace but I corrected that a few years later as well as corner braces.

I think they went out of business but try a web search.

I sold my 90 Odell a few years back. Like the others said, thick glass, I do not think they were tempered.

Hi, as a previous O'Dell tanks holder, would you some how still have some documentation on it? I'm looking for a catalog, advertising, magazine, in which it was published. Here is an example of the aquarium.

Thanks in advance!
