Well I have had bryopsis for a while now and I have raised my mag so that it is around 1500. I thought that was going to do the trick but well it turned out coming back. I am getting frustrated. It hasnt killed any corals yet, but I do keep it trimmed back pretty good. I would love for it to just go away. Any one got any advice for me?

i just noticed that your mag is around 1800. would it benifet me to have it that high?

Will I ever get rid of it in all? I guess it is a hard thing. Not only do the corals take patients to get to grow but the algeas and thing that make things look like junk tank patients to get rid of. Thanks. Any one else?

I service reef tanks for a living. Haven't encountered bryopsis but once. I tried everything from huge water changes to pulling it out manually to phosphate removers, the magnesium thing. Nothing worked. I added 24 emerald crabs to the tank which is approx. 150 gallons. In 2 weeks the tank was spotless! No more bryopsis.

I just might have to add a few emeralds. I have a 75 gallon tank. How many would you suggest me getting?

What did you use to raise Mg? I have heard that some forms work less effectively than others? I.e. Sulfate vs. chloride

I am doseing my reef with the Twopartsolution.com formula. I will go and check what I am doseing it with. Just a min.

You're supposed to raise you Mag to 1600+.

oh well I guess Ill do that now. I am probably going to over kill this but I am sick of it and I will do just about anything other then break down the whole system.

I believe sulfate is preferred. And people have said Kent tech M has been almost guaranteed.
Anyway, I would get the Kent and go to 1600 just to make sure. That's just me though. I hate variables.

Have you considered a foxface?
I had a crapload of byopsis in my 125 awhile back... boosted my mag to 1600 w/ Epsom salts, kept my cal at 400, pulled out the biggest strands by hand and then threw in a foxface and didn't feed the tank AT ALL...
First 2.5 days the foxface just hid behind some LR... once he got comfortable (and hungry) he stripped every single strand of algae from the entire tank within 72 hours... and it NEVER came back.

I boosted my mg up to about 1800 and I have watched the stuff disappear before my eyes.

It seems that those who have been successful killing Bryopsis with elevated Mg levels were able to do so only if they used Kent Tech-M. It is thought that there is something else in the mixture (contaminate) that is responsible for killing the weed.
Many folks who have used Kent Tech-M were successful....and many who used straight Mg chloride or Sulphate were not (including me).

I'am over-skimming and it's turning gray and dying. The skimmer is going crazy pulling out green gunk.

Neither worked for me and I've been trying for months to get rid of it in my 180. Almost all of my sps corals have died or are in the process of doing so. If I don't find a solution within the next few months, the tank will be coming down. I've also tried keeping lights off for extended periods of time, manually removing whatever I can, keeping the rockwork and strands of algae free of detritus, adding a foxface, spotted rabbitfish, urchins, sea hares, etc. Still have bryopsis. I'm almost tempted to toss in a ton of emerald crabs just to see if that works but I don't hold out much hope.

I didn't see it in your post, but do you have a PO4 reactor?? I tried animals, reduced light and Cheato--the reactor made it disappear. I never had a level detectable by a text kit, but the Byropsis grew. R

I haven't seen if you mentioned if you are using RO/DI? I think that's what made the difference for me. I had it BAD. Once I got RO/DI I did ~25% water changes once a week to get the TDS down in my tank. It all disappeared within a couple months. I have not seen the first piece of the stuff since.

Sorry guys, I do run a reactor with phososponge in it. I am running RO/DI and I just got new filters a few months ago. I will try and do more frequent water changes as well. I have been doing bi-weekly water changes. So maybe a couple more in a month will help me out a bit.
rickh what kind of material did you put into your reactor?
