Hi Everyone,

I am just looking for some opinons from anyone with a reef tank. I have had my 75g up for about 1 year. I have a sand star, two conchs, and about 15 Astria(sp?) snails. I have a yellow tang and a lawnmower blenny that have dont a fantastic job controlling algae.I would like to hear about reccommended hermit crab species that are very detritus focused in their diets. I am even open to reef safe stars. I have a lot of outcroppingsi n my tank that have very small crevices and it would be ideal to have small hermits getting in there to take care of business.

Thanks for your opinions on this subject. Hopefully I can pick the little guys up tonight at my LFS.

Let me add to my original post. Since the algae is under control I have noticed my lawnmower blenny is losing weight. He was a heavy weight for some time with a big round belly. Since the tang came to town the algae is so scarce that the blenny has thinned out. Because of this algae scarcity(which is a great problem to have) I would like a hermit/star species that does not focus on Algae as much as they do detritus in their diet.

Thanks!!

Is your blenny eating any of the food you put in the tank? I had one for a week and he wouldn't touch any of the food I put in the tank for the other fish or the HA. I had to take him back to my LFS. If you don't want to do that, try some live brine, etc. to see if he'll start eating. If he doesn't, I'd find him a new home.

Lawnmowers are notorious of starving themselves.

I have 30 blue leg hermits, when they are not at war with each other they are cleaning anything edible.

You need to feed your Blenny! Get a veggie clip and some Nori from your grocery store and he'll go nuts. ALso, you should get some sinking algae wafers as well. New Life Spectrum makes a great product that my LMB goes nuts over as well as my Fox Face.

My blenny did'nt even touch the Nori. He does seem to be munching on the red slime. Not sure if he is going to make it though. Have'nt seen Mr LMB since this morning and he was looking a little stressed then.
