What is the vinegar test!

What is the vinegar test! I know it is for sand but what does it test for and how is it done? This falls in the stupid question catigory.

What ever the vinigar doen't dissolve in a week is considered to be impurities or non-calcium based.

You can use it to see if the sand is calcium carbonate based. Take a pinch of sand and drop it in a cup of white vinegar. If it's aragonite, it will bubble, if it's something else, it wont.
