I just built a frame for my stand using the diy template that rocketengineer created. Its a good design but i had some questions.
My tank is oddly shaped (a trapazoid).
making the angles and everything was kinda annoying but i with the use of a mitre saw i was able to accomplish it. everything is put together but i have some concerns. the stand kinda wobbles back and forth, all the posts on the stand are exactly the same length which would make it level right? i think it has something to do with the screwing. here are some pics:

The woble isnt too bad and before i put all the peices on i had someone stand on one side and stood on the other and it leveled out. im thinking the sheer weight of the tank on the stand distributed will level everything together. any opinions on this?

btw..its a 112 gallon tank 48" back and 36" front trapazoid.

thanks,
Aaron

I found if i placed a piece of 1/2 inch foam under my stand like you do under the tank it was way better.

It would be difficult to isolate the exact piece/pieces of your frame that's causing this wobble. I would suggest this for a fix since you mentioned that it's not that bad. Have your top piece of your stand cut a 1/4" or so larger then your frame so it overhangs the edges a bit. Apply some would glue to the top of your frame and place this "pre-cut top" on. Have a couple of your buddies stand on the top to eliminate the rocking issue and screw in your top while they are still standing on the top of the stand. Take a router and router off the edges of the top piece so it's now flush with the frame. If you don't have a router handy then you can just cut it to the exact size. If this doesn't fix it then add the back piece in the same fashion. This should do the trick.

good idea, i didnt think of that, so before i put the 3/4" plywood on top ill have people keep the stand down so i can screw it in when its level. i guess i can do this with all the skin parts. the only problem is finding people that are big enough to keep it down, maybe i can get some weights from somewhere.
any other ideas?
