View Full Version : Adjusting Salinity

The salinity is low (1.022). Normally it is 1.025 - 1.026. I did a water change yesterday and I suspect I miscalculated when adding salt on when I made the water several days before. Normally I check the salinity before adding the water but this time I didn't. My question: How quickly can I adjust the salinity back up to normal? I thought I would remove a gallon or so of water, over saturate and put the water back into the sump. I know I will have to this several times but I often? The tank is a 50g with a 10g sump.

Thanks for your feedback.

I would just replace evaporated water with salt water to bring it up slowly. You need to top off with about 14% of the tank actual water volume to get back into range. Depending on evaporation that might be a week or two. Unusually saline water can lead to problems as calcium carbonate may precipitate.

Sounds good. Just be sure to not add the lime to it. :)
