New to NPS

Hey I am considering the idea of a nonphotosynthetic tank and just had a couple questions. I know this should be obvious, but do you jsut use NO flourescent striplights? How often do you need to feed/does everything need to be target fed?

You do not need to avoid bright light in a non-photosynthetic tank, you may need to avoid certain photosynthetic corals due to the amount of nutrients typical of such a tank.

What nutrients? Those of photosynthetic tanks or non? I have 65w PCs over a 37g tank, so I am considering nps corals. Any advice is appreciated.

BTW, it is an eclipse hood system with the Current Sunpaq retrofit kit. I have about I am trying to keep it low tech. I have about 18x turnover right now.

For sun corals, dendrophyllia, cladopsammia and other their relatives - target feed at least twice a week, for others - creating relatively high density food soup in the tank few to several times a day. Smaller amounts, than for suns, but more frequent.

Some non-photosynthetic corals are prone more, than anothers, to be covered by algae, especially bryopsis. Others are quite resistant.

Swiftia, diodogorgia, suns, scleronephthya were resistant for me, thin branched gorgonians with small blue polyps and red whip were prone to be covered by bryopsis.

Sorry that cant help more - not much varieties are available here and I'm trying to avoid large gorgonians in my tanks: lack of place and interest :p .
