It looks to me like a very unhappy Fox Coral.

I second the bubble in bad shape, though I can see the similarity in appearance to the fox.

I agree with unhappy fox coral - you can see the mouths all in a line in the center - right? They like it low in the tank - in the sand or low on the rocks. They don't need strong light or flow... HTH

I can see why some would say bubble coral - but bubbles don't have the mouths in a line like fox coral does, and also bubbles don't usually form in a straight line like that - right? When I first saw the picture - I thought bubble - but it was the mouths that did it for me. I would say it's 100% fox in my opinion...

and they like lowlight? cause its at the top of my live rock near the top of my tank. I knew he was not so good when I got him. the LFS ( I bet a few could guess which one) didn't have a good coral tank set up but had a few corals.. all of which were dyeing. He was one. the Manager gave me a great deal for him and I got him for under 30$.

Mine sure likes it lower in the tank - with not direct light... I would watch it and see - or try it lower in the tank and see if it opens bigger? Mine always looks a little bunched up after I move it or fuss with it - for at least a few days, so if you do move it - I'd wait a week or so to decide if you think it was happier up top or down below. A lot of people even keep them on the sandbed... That's where mine is right now and is happy there... hope that helps!

The center groove is what was the giveaway for fox coral for me. Second photo left no question about it.

Put down a little lower where the flow is gentle an the polyp is facing more upwards. They are kinda delicate so make sure it's not sitting where it can fall or get damaged by shifting rocks.
