that might have been me--and it was a clarkie in the sump--it took me three months to catch it and I was waiting to deliver it to another home so it seemed a good space where I could net him when it was time

I don't think there's much reason to put a fish in the fuge other than just to populate it with something interesting... OR something you can have in your tank like a pipefish, seahorse, etc.

I have a small mantis shrimp in my fuge, but I designed my fuge so it is the front half of the 10 gallon sump so it looks like another display under my main tank.

its a good place for a mean fish you don't want in your display but can't bear to part with.

If you put predators in your refugium it is no longer a refuge where microfuana can grow and feed your tank.

if the fish doesn't fit in then why not find a home for it. I had a clarkie clown that exhausted my patience with it. It took three months and finally two of us with two nets caught it and I put it in the sump for a few days. I bagged it, went to the LFS, went up to the first guy that was looking to buy a saltwater fish and said
"want a free fish for a good home"
That was easy.

and if you really don't want to part with it--set up a fowlr tank;)
