I am waiting on a lifereef overflow. He is also sending me a mag 9 pump is that too much for a sump that is about 20 gallons. My return line is probably going to be about 4 deet.

it will be fine, sump size has nothing to do with it.

I usually go for 3-5X turnover through the sump. Install a ball valve if you want to slow it down a bit.
