I am getting ready to drill the back of my new 150. I was thinking of drilling 4 holes. 2 for the sump, feed and return. And 2 for a closed loop. Can anyone offer input on what they have done that has worked well for them?

For clarity, are you referring to methods used to drill the holes or the design the closed loop system?

Design of the closed loop system.
I was also considering adding a second drain to the sump.

OK. Sorry, I am not much help on closed loop as I don't use one. The only thing I have noticed on tank journals is those who use closed loops seem to use multiple intakes and returns. Hopefully someone with experience will chime in.

Do you want experience on how to drill or CL design?

I'd recommend doing the 2 holes for drains, 1 is just not enough! you could even use 1 to plumb in some inline tanks... say a vegtable filter or something fun like that =)
And with all that overflow potential you could stick a surge device above your display tank, wouldnt that be fun!

I've never tried a closed loop for a couple reasons; its still laminar flow, and i fear flooding since i live in an apt, above my old landlady! also i have barely no space behind my setup and its bloody difficult to access what little room i do have, just remember that you'll have to service that thing; make sure you have shut off valves and such
