I bought my first clam, acclimated to my tank, woke up next morning and bristle worm crawled out of clam shell when i turned on the light, will they eat clams if they're not dead? clam was completely gone except for shell. i have proper lighting and all water paramiters were correct. help, cause my wife won't let me spend the money on new clam until i figure out what killed the first.

What are your water param's?
What fish and inverts do you have?
How did you acclimate it?
Did you buy it from a lfs or online?
If a lfs was it on the rocks and if so how did they remove it?

Sorry I forgot, most bristle worms won't kill clams, they just clean up the remains. Although the great big bristle worms might pose a problem

You more than likely bought yourself a clam that was weak and in the beginning stage of leaving the mortal world

It most likely was damaged when you bought it.

Was the clam shell real slimey? On another board we were on the subject of reef worms and someone mentioned that the type of worm in question was a clam killer. The guy said that he recienty lost a clam and that the shell was real slimey.
I can try to find that thread if you are interested.
