Is it wise to turn on the night mode on my controller which I believe turns the powerheads off at night? I am not sure if this provides any benefit.

Lower flow at night might be appropriate in some systems. That depends on the animals kept and the total flow rate.

Night modes on Tunze controllers means turning the pumps down to 30% power at night. From what Roger said in the Tunze forums, tunze pumps should never be turned off for periods of time due to calcification..

what species would require the need to use nightmode I figure it has to do with corals and not fish. I would take a wild quess and way that sps corals are the ones that benefit or require nightmode.

IMO it's for corals the send out long sweepers at night. Less turbulence so they are more likely to extend fully

I'd guess that Acropora would be fine with high flow, but some of the larger-polyped animals might appreciate the rest. The fish might appreciate lower flow, too, depending on how many resting spots the rock provides.
