well I really want to set up a sump for my 55, I want it to be cheap and not too complicated because I will be switching over to a 135g soon anyway, are there any easy DIY overflows or sumps that I could make, or that I culd buy?

for a sump, you could use a rubbermate container

I had someone build me a hob fuge pretty reasonably for what I wanted.(built in skimmer, air pump, water pump, and light for $160.00 shipped) If you are looking for less it will cost less.

you can pick up a small glass tank pretty cheap, And make you own overflow box.

Looked on ebay for overflow box "buy it nows", ranged from about $55.00 incl shipping on the low end. You still could do the sump with a small tank or other container. Is this going under tank in a stand? Building an overflow box looked like it is harder than gluing frags to rock. Ya know what I am saying! (James a man just needs to realize his limitations) lol

I was wondering if you would ever answer, or if you were just posting for sport again. Even if you get a cheap box you still are looking at a few more bucks, are you wanting to do a fuge w/macro algae or just a sump for other uses?

There are plenty of options with the ability to make it a fuge whenever you want. Just do the most your time and budget will allow now.
