with 7 fish i'd be willing to bet that you are overfeeding. Its better to feed tiny ammounts 2-3 times a day rather than a handfull once a day.

You have a sally lightfoot in a 30 gal. Odds are its killed something that you might not be aware of.

all we feed is a small pinch at a time once in the morning and the sally hasnt killed nothin yet.

Tanks do create a smell factor in the home. Doing reg. water changes help. Add some carbon in a media bag in your sump/filter, and change your media floss if you have any like every week, that will help alot. Cut down on the feeding. Some corals and especially LR generate some foulness.

Also, what do you expect. You have a piece of the ocean in your living room. It may not smell like peaches.

In the past, whenever I have noticed a smell or a bit of cyano...I usually can find a dead snail somewhere.

Check behind the tank, maybe some snails crawled out or a fish jumped out and its stinkin up behind the tank? Just a far fetched Idea...

Same here. And when you remove the snail. WOW what a smell.
I had some very large turbos die, and it was nasty.

i second the dead snail smell. WOAH. worse than anything. Your biofilter can build up enough to handle a dead snail... mine did and i found it when it was already pretty rotten. good luck snail hunting... dont smell it when you take it out!

if it smells like hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs). You have bad flow somewhere that is allowing stuff to rot.

ya it alomost is like a rotten milk smell. also i only see they cyno on the rocks and on the bottom when the lights come on. when they are off i can look with a flashlight and it isnt there. and it only out in the open light not behind or underneth the rocks. why is it that the bubbles from my skimmer only sticks to the rocks and stuff when the lights come on too. what is it with the lights?? its weird!

what do you think about 2 hydor koralia power heads 400 gph each. what should i consider for skimmer for hang on the back but with low microbubbles returning in the tank? i was gonna get a 20 gal wet/dry filter with skimmer and everything in it but im not sure what to get????? so many differant opinions, dont no what would be better, even if i decide to go to a 60 or 75 gal.
