Yes as long as you have the right wattage per gallon. What size tank and what PCs? You should be OK.

55 gallon; 65w x 2 10k's, and 65w x 2 actinic 03's. Think I'd be ok?
Plan on upgrading to t5's shortly, when I find a nice enough fixture.

They will do fine under that lighting, don't forget to change bulbs at least one a year though. I had a Frogspawn under 260 watts in my 90 for a few years, It grew like crazy.

Yes, your lights will be fine. Also Egres the bulbs to reccomended to be changed every six months, but some people do it yearly. The bulbs will start to significantly loose color by 6 months. Sometimes it can promote algae growth. Thats why people like VHOs and T-5s, they need changed about 10-12 months. Also the cost is cheaper. At first the whole fixture will cost the same but when you change the bulbs you save money on the VHOs. If you have 4-48" bulbs you are saving about $120 a year. Since both 65w PCs and VHO bulbs are at max $30 each.

I've had mine under everythign from pc to mh. I am even getting good growth with candycanes under 6500k compact flo. bulbs that I bought from Walmart. They don't produce the nicest look, but for growth and price I am happy so far and have heard great things. With a T5, 4 bulb, individual reflectors, you should be able to keep just about anything in a 55g with proper placement.
