Is this safe for use in our ro/di systems?

Founded in 1984, KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc. is a technological leader in the fluid treatment industry. KDF® process media are high-purity copper-zinc formulations used in pretreatment, primary treatment, and wastewater applications. KDF media supplement or replace existing technologies to dramatically extend system life, reduce heavy metals, microorganisms, scale, lower total cost, and decrease maintenance.

Patented KDF process media are 100 percent recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities, and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce or remove chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, and bacteria from their water.

key words being copper-zinc

KDF 55 and KDF 85 Process Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. All KDF Process Media forms are effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi and scale, making them ideal for use in GAC beds, ion exchange resins, carbon block filters and inline carbon filters. Wherever our Media are used, they can eliminate the need for costly, and sometimes harmful, chemical treatments.

Do KDF Process Media offer any other advantages?

In a word, "Yes." All KDF Process Media are guaranteed for product purity. A certified analytical sheet accompanies each manufacturing run. Patented KDF Process Media are 100% recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Our Medium is classified as a "pesticidal device" by the US Environmental Protection Agency so no pesticidal registration is required. Our Media also meet EPA and Food and Drug Administration standards for maximum limits of zinc and copper in potable water.

what do u think....???

How are you thinking of using it and why?

FWIW, meeting the potable limit for copper at more than 1 ppm will kill a reef tank. :(

this is what an online ro/di vendor uses when they build their refillable carbon blocks
the expansion sponge is on the bottom...a small amount of this KDF material then GAC Carbon....what say ye???

I see no reason to want that in a reef tank. We are much more concerned with keeping copper out than in killing bacteria, which is presumably what the copper does. If that is before an RO membrane and a DI, it is probably not a concern, but I'd avoid it.
