A few spots showed up in a couple colors. pink, neon green. what should i do? i heard they can be very toxic when they die off. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.

Where is your rock from? I wouldn't worry about it I've had sponges matching both of those looks (looks like you have clear on the bottom of that last pic too like mine)

I'm wondering if its from tonga? Its only a small amount of sponge so dont panic - they seem to grow and shrink based on the food supply in the tank depending on what you feed and add (phyto, other foods etc)

i think that rock is fiji. Its a very small piece of rock. A little larger than a golf ball or so. the first pic shows a little of the shell of a turbo snail for comparison. The rock i originally found it on is Indo-pacific.

So is sponge growth bad? I have quite a bit of yellow=== It's pretty, and my LFS said it's a sign of a healthy tank.

from what i understand about sponges is that they will show up from time to time when the water is perfect for them but when what ever they feed from depletes they retreat only to come back some other time... my step dad has a sponge growing on the shell of his clam.. it is the coolest thing to see.
