Hello everyone, I currently have a mag 18 for my return pump that also feeds my skimmer. The upstairs is 14ft of head, and the skimmer is about 3 ft head (controlled by a ball valve)and is running about 300-400GPH I also have a 20L frag tank that has a mag 5 for a ruturn pump with 4 FT of head (300GPH). I would like to replace both MAGs with 1 bigger external pump. I was looking at the Pan World 200PS or a Reeflo Hammerhead. My display (Setting up a new 120) will have 2 (Megaflow) overflows.

I may also plum, my Calcium reactor, and some phosban reactors as well (remove all other pumps)

What would be the better pump for this type of application?

I understand the Pan world is a pressure pump, but the hammerhead has a 21FT head limit as well.. I was just concerned the pan world would not be able to do it all..

I have read good things about both, but heard the hammerhead was more efficient, i also would be open to a smaller reeflow if it would suit my needs.

Ryan

I have 14 ft. from basement sump to tank and used the panworld ps 200.

I used 1.5 in. pvc ( 1.5" to 1 in. reducers in/out of pump) all the way to just under the tank then split to two 3/4" returns. I actually have a ball valve partially closed to reduce the flow return a little.

panworld = 39 ft max head and 280 watts

vs hammer = 21 ft max and 360 watts I believe (x 24/7 = cheaper to run and more powerful.

Ok, so your pan world runs upstairs and has to be dialed back a notch, so it probably would not run an extra skimmer and a frag tank?? Would it?

Anyone else?

my external recirc. skimmer is gravity fed off the return, as is my refugium/ frag tank. Seemed like the better/ more simple way to go.

I had my H&S recirc plummed as a gravity feed as well, but had to many issues with small small snails, and marco algea messing up the needle wheel.. Yeah, i could def, gravity feed the frag tank...
