Whats the proper way of adding more sand? DO i need to move rock? I have some detrius on the sand is this ok?

i would rinse the sand real well then use a 1" PVC pipe with a funnel to add the sand to where you want it. the detrius should be fine if you have nass. snails or other type of sand sifters

i agree, but i would only add just a cup or two a day to keep from any spikes.

Washing removes the fine particles(dust). This dust is beneficial in a DSB but it seems the current trend is to go with a SSB or BB tank.
Washing it will reduce the dust storm that adding new sand causes.
If you are adding dry sand (pure aragonite) it will not cause a spike because it is inert.
Do use the funnel idea that kau_cinta_ku suggested and release the sand as close to or on the bottom as possible and turn off your pumps during this process.
Your going to have a sand storm but following these suggestions should reduce it greatly.

I'm setting up a macro algae tank/ refugium with dsb---should I not rinse the argonite in this case?

Assuming you'd have low flow in a fuge, I'd say why bother.
