View Full Version : I found Envy Orange!

This is in no way a shill post or whatever. I found a vendor that is selling what looks to be the envy orange palys. I am only posting it here because I know you guys love zoas and palys.
I found what looked just like envy orange and the vendor was even calling them them EO's so I took a shot and I am glad I did. The store is called oceaninabox.com. Here is the pic I took last night with full MH lighting. It's actually a bit more orange than this pic and def different colored than the RPE.

I agree they are pretty.
If you scroll down to the 17th and 18th post in the link below and look at both the pictures above each other., then grab a magnifying glass as I always do and compare the two, they are not the same. Color is the last thing I look at when making a comparison as lighting schemes, K value, wattage, flash etc all play a vital roll in how something appears on line. The polyp I saw last year has striations/lines that run half way to the oral slit, not through it as is the case in the picture above. Also, the OE/EO I saw, has a color line running the full diameter of the disc perpendicular through the skirts. You can clearly see this on the lower left side of the second polyp from the top in post 17 of the link below.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1139727&perpage=25&highlight=envy%20orange&pagenumber=2
The polyp above has the same striations as this polyp below.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/true_rpe.jpg
Now look at post 17 and you won't see this, not even using a magnifying glass.
I just think the oral slit being the same and having the same color seems convincing. I just did a search of a popular zoanthid that everyone wants or has and all five pictures had a different shade of blue and the skirts as well. I just checked and it appears that I have 50 60 of them and never knew it. Not being a killjoy Rev, but either what I saw last year wasn't and this one is, or vice versa. Just my 2 cents and I know everyone will disagree but we are still friends. Anybody wants to have lunch?

I was thinking the true variant of the RPE just uncolored a bit.
But who know with these things. The only orange ones I have ATM are Starwars, orange flame throwers. A true orange paly would be sweet.

Hey no harm Mucho! :) I know we all can't agree. I can tell you these are orange though and many of you know me and I have kept my share of palys over th years. These are different than any I have ever had and when I show you a shot of my RPE next to it you might be better convinced. It's ok by me though if nobody wants them, I like them allot and that's all that really matters. I think he's selling them 5 for $100 now. I didn't get a frag to grow and resell and the prices that he has compared to the $600 per, is proof of that. If they are in fact the real deal, I would be extremely happy that people could now afford these. (which i never thought they were worth that anyway) ;)

I know you won't believe this, but I made a few calls and I found some true OE, or is it EO, today, and they are crazy orange. I purchased 12 of them and they are stunning. I'm not into names, but I wanted to set the record straight, so I purchased them. I will try to get someone to take a nice macro shot tomorrow. Delso650 wanted to see a side by side comparison and I wanted to take one for the team and I picked up a dozen or so. The price was a steal, they are bigger than I thought but truly sweet indeed. I continue to say it day in and day out, if you know where to look, and you have a picture, not a name, you can find anything. Finding them was very easy. I'll post a macro shot around 5 PM eastern time just for you Delso650.

I hear you loud and clear Delsol650, so I did this just for you my friend. I also agree with a few others in saying, "like what you buy, and buy what you like". But if I buy something, it's because it has a full body of color, and of course not the name.
Here's a side by side comparison to see if this is the orange paly in question.
The first picture is what was originally purported to be the OE. It is the exact same polyp that I saw a well over a year ago. Note the color, the shorter knobby skirts and the striations/lines that DO NOT cross the oral slit. The surface around the slit is flat and smooth. This is what I remembered when I saw them in person. You can also see this with a magnifying glass . Retail price back then was $ 800 to $ 900
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/OrangesColonyWithFlash.jpg
The second photo is same polyp with a flash. The disc surface appears the same but now the tips of the skirts have lighter orange highlights so to speak. Again, retail price was $ 800 to $ 900
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/orangeenvysame.jpg
The third photo of another OE was retrieved from another web sight. In this photo you'll see the secondary color around the oral slit making this a two tone OE. This photo doesn't appear to have any of the characteristics of the pictures posted above or below this picture. Retail price is, $ 300
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/orangeenvy.jpg
The fourth picture is still another OE but note the single row of skirts, not the double rows as the other OE's have.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/envyenvy.jpg
The fith picture is the one Revtree posted originally. A very pretty polyp, but dramatically different in color, the striation are clearly seen running through the oral slit unlike picture 1, 2 and 3. It does not have the two tone coloration as seen in picture # 3.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/orangeenvyorange.jpg
The sixth picture was captured from the same sight in which Rev purchased his polyp. In this photo, there's a darker purplish hue to the inner ring of the skirts that is clearly seen. Retail is $ 25 per polyp.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/MUCHOREEF9000/envy1-1.jpg
The 7th and final picture are the ones I found yesterday. I was able to pick up 12 of them. I did this for the team as I really had no desire to buy them. I pulled out my rolodex and made a few calls. I found them within 5 minutes. I jumped in my car and drove 3 minutes to pick them up. I think the ones I found are the sweetest of them all. As I told you Pufferpunk, these won't be around long, they are truly sweet, maybe the sweetest I have ever seen. I just took this photo after doing a quick dip to clean this one up.

Look at the darker lines running right up to the oral slit in pic# 5 and # 6. Now grab a magnifying glass and look at pics 1,2 & 4. Those lines stop half way to the oral slit. Every picture I posted was labeled an OE. All of them can't be an OE if they all look different. Just my 2 is all. Hey, I'm probably dead wrong.

The pic of the single polyp with "one row of skirt" is my polyp. It does have 2 rows of skirt like normal it's just hard to tell in that old photo.
I got it direct from JC himself, and when I first got it it actually had the central dark area around the oral slit. He later offered 3 polyps for a little over a grand, and in the WYSIWYG they all had dark centers as well but looked a little faded.
Not a great pic of it, but you can see the dark center:

Orange Blimpies or Orange Fatties but if you use the name, it will cost you a polyp :)
