I am a fan of a filter sock instead of a bubble trap now.

As far as the sump body goes... see if you can find a used tank in the paper for cheap or free.

Get a tank.
The livestock tubs are impossible to divide with regular baffles. All you can do with them is cut the gridded light diffuser panels and partition it.
I have one of the 70g tubs.
I have seen people sit a small tank & light on the grid, in the water, for a refugium section.
You should be able to get that tank used for no more than $2 a gallon and if you go down to a 50g tank you can get it for $1 a gallon (thinner glass)

I just saw your from Canada an decided to send this post anyway because I figured you'd get the idea.

yeah its hard to find quality used tanks. they are all like 15-20 years old or brand new.

I use a stock tank and have the tanks drain into a salt bucket which overflows into the main body of the sump. At the other end I installed a bulkhead and the return pump draws from there. So that cheato etc. in the sump doesn't get into the return pump, I have a mjmod hiflow blowing right at the pump intake so that the cheato is pushed back toward the other side of the sump. When it gets thick, it starts to get near it but then it's time to prune.

can you take a pic

Ok, in the first pic you can see the drains going into the salt bucket I have sitting in there. My skimmer pump also pulls from this area and and the skimmer drains back there. In this pic the water level is a little higher than usual and it usually has more of a cascade effect as it overflows the salt bucket.

In this next pic, you can see the white pipe that is the main return inlet. It comes in the end of the sump and then does a 90 degree turn up. That pipe is capped and the part that comes up has a bunch of holes drilled into it for additional help with keeping cheato out. That pipe is down near the lower phosban reactor.

I would recommend getting yourself a used acrylic tank off of Ebay or Craigs list. You can usually find them cheap with maybe a few scratches. Then find a local glass or acrylic shop and get some baffles cut to size. Buy yourself some glue and your in business. Thats the route that I went and I would do it again.

That's actually a mh fixture out of an indoor pool building. One of our local guys is an electrician and they were changing all the fixture.

It keeps my dragonettes fat!

In my case with a utility room right behind the tank it worked well for me and the stock tank cost about 50 bucks and the salt bucket was free with the salt. :D
