DO NOT flush it in the toilet, please. you will have more problems then you can imagine.

sell it on ebay :)

or throw it out back in your yard if you have one.

Don't flush it or put it down the toilet. Some of it may end up settling in the trap, and/or you will waste a heck of a lot of water getting it to flush through the pipes. If you have your own septic system, it will just land and stay at the bottom of the septic tank, doing the tank no good. Could you not rinse thoroughly and re-use it?

Contractor's bags up to 15 pounds each (so the garbage man does not complain) and to the garbage can.
If the sand has been used for a while in an established tank knot the bags very well, after a day or two it will stink a lot.

I look out my back window and see three different "once live"sand piles in the backyard.

Are you just replacing the sand or are you going bare bottom? What is your reason for doing this?

There seems to be some issues with your tank, already have 3 anemones in there, and need to know what type they are -- some will not be happy with out a sand bed.
