I was told it is a Crocea, but it is too small to ID. I think it is more like a squamosa?

i'm with you, looks like a squammie ( based on mantle shape and pattern ) and a blue one at that. they are considered pretty rare and demand a high dollar when grown.

nice find, sweet looking clam :)

I say can you get a pic of the shell.

I say maxima, the shell is already elongated compared to its height

The blue stripes makes me think its more of a squamosa pattern though, I say squammaxima:D

thanks all for ID that for me. the little clam just grow another layer of shell. by looking at the scutes. i'm quite confident to say it is a squamosa.
Cheers all

Can you post some more pic's? Possibly side of shell and if the clam isn't attached one of the byssal opening?

well, at that size even Croceas have scutes. they lose their scutes as they grow and bore into rocks.

Feed the little guy LIKE MAD, they're EXTREMELY delicate when that little.

all it needs is lots of light and a little nitrates and ammonia

This is the best picture i took, excuse the quality.
but trust me, it is a squamosa.

i didn't target feed it or do anything special. just place it directly under 150W and 15cm under it. i will update it later once it grows out more then you guys can see it.

Cheers all:D

from the spacing of the scutes i would agree with squamosa

Now the clam is 2 months old, i still didn't do any target feeding. I used to put it in a shot glass, but the shot glass can not hold it anymore.
so here we go for the picture.

With those big scutes on the shell I would say definately a squamosa. Very nice! Those blue squamosas go for $400 or better these days.
