I was interested in the EV-240 skimmer and was wondering how people who owned one liked them. Has anyone used something besides a Mag or Iwaki pump. I was thinking about using a Rio hyperflow 26HF or Ocean Runner 6500.

I own an ev-240, I made the 1 inch modification on the spray injector (a must). I run my skimmer with a mag 18. Everything I've read about these skimmers are they work more efficiently from back pressure. I feel the Rio pumps don't handle back pressure, not sure on the Ocean Runner pumps. Great skimmer but on the downside it's an energy hog. If I purchase another skimmer I would look into a skimmer with lower energy consumption.

I run the the EV-240 with the mag 18, upgrading from the recomended mag 12. I get fairly good production from it now. Not so good before the upgrade.

I also use the Mag-18, and I also get much better production now that I've upgraded to the 1" spray injector.

Same here, 1" injector, mag 18. I agree that the 1" injector is a must.

has anyone here put their skimmer using a Mag 18 on a Kill-A-Watt meter? I am curious as to how much it draws. I'm guessing it will be less than 80 watts.

For your 75, I would go with an EV-180. I was running an EV-240 with a Mag 12 on my 75 for a while and I was just getting some very dry foam at the top with a bunch of gunk collecting on the sides of the bubble chamber. I traded it for an EV-180 with a Mag 9.5 a few days ago and the 180 seems to be much more appropriate for my tank.

Same thing here!

I have a EV 240 with a Mag 12, 1" sprayer and I am experiencing the same thing. A lot of the funk never makes it halfway to the cup. I dont know whether to try a Mag 18 or just replace the skimmer with a MSX 200 or a Octo pro. Its a shame because the EV is so maintenace free. I am just wondering if one of the newer needle wheel skimmers would do a better job........hmmm.
