After it has fully dried, it should be ok. I used it on a PVC intake line without any adverse reactions. The only problem is if you have snails, they will scour the paint off.

Most epoxies seem okay after drying. Here's ingredients from the MSDS for any chemists around:
Chemical Name CAS Number Weight % Less ThanACGIH TLV-TWA ACGIH TLV-STEL OSHA PEL-TWA OSHA PEL-CEILING
Stoddard Solvents 8052 -41-3 45.0 100 PPM N.E. 500 PPM N.E.
Titanium Dioxide 13463-67-7 25.0 10 mg/m3 N.E. 10 mg/m3 N.E.
Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether 111-76 -2 5.0 20 PPM N.E. 50 PPM N.E.

Would you recommend a different product?

Those ingredients are OK, but I do not think the can be the only ingredients in a paint. I see no solid organic stuff to be a paint, so I wonder what else is not listed. .
My biggest concern would be any rust proofing or anti corrosion ingredients.
Does the can say anything about that?
An alterative is the Purple PVC primer sold for gluing PVC. I've used it in my system. Of course, you have no color option, but it looks a bit like coralline, and will soon enough be covered with coralline anyway.
