Most I've seen around here do a refugium. Wet/Dry filters are on their way out for the most part it seems. They work great for converting ammonia, but a lot of people find they cause nitrates to continually rise regardless of water changes/feeding habits.

True, but in FO tanks ammonia is the problem. Being able to convert that quickly to nitrates is very important.
With that said. I run a over sized skimmer, and fuge.

with enough live rock you won't have an ammonia problem and you won't have a nitrate problem due to a wet dry.

its a 168 gallon tank and right now i only have about 60lbs of live rock. i may add more later if i dont like how it looks when i set it up.

I have done both, I do like my current sump with fuge, but I liked the wet/dry too, a lot of people think they are outdated, but in a FO set-up, I still think a wet-dry is just fine.
