Can anyone please help me identify what this is in my tank? Is it a cocoon for brittle stars? There are several of these and seem to be a nuisance. How do I get rid of them?

Appears to be a harmless sponge that appear in established tanks. You can remove them if you don't like them, but they are usually an indicator that your tank is stable and doing well.

I agree...a sponge. The little "holes" are used to pass water through it to filter feed.
