View Full Version : ORP zeroes out when power cycles???

I turned my ACIII off and right back on and the ORP reading went to 000, as shown below, and is gradually coming back to realistic value. (I didn't get a shot of the graph until after the restart point was no longer visible. Trust me, it went to 000, not the minimal value you see at the far left of what is shown below.) What is up with that??? Something defective on the probe (only about 8 months old)?

I'm not sure why it took so long to recover if it wsan't taken out of the water. I haven't seen that before.

No, it was left in sump where it always is. I do note, however, that the power was cycled just a couple hours after I changed out about 30 gallons (out of a total of about 170 gallons in system), and my ORP always drops significantly and take a day or two to recover when I do a water change. My real question, though, is why it would have gone all the way to 0 with power cycle? So if you haven't seen it before, what do you make of it??? Defective probe? Defective junction? Want me to try it again to see if same phenomenon occurs?

It would be interesting to see what happens. My guess is that the ORP probe is putting out a very weak signal.
