My temp. is up to 82 should I be concerned? What can I do to get it down? The heater is off.

82 is ok, above 84 is a worry, get a fan blowing across the sump or tank top for evap cooling or both.

You'll find the spring and the fall tend to be the hottest times, at least for me. It's that the a/c isn't really kicking in yet but it's too warm for the heater. A/C by nature is a dehumidifier and the heater also dries the air. Both of those will cause more evap from the tank and is a natural cooling effect.

As said, run a fan. :D

No, 82 isn't anything to be worried at. It's the average temp for areas of reef growth and is below the temp optimum for most corals and well below the danger zone.

if you dont have a fan to run on top of the water to cool down temp what else can you do? could you put some cooler water in it?

putting cooler water in it is not a good idea. It will only fix it temporarily and will stress everything out. what kind of lighting do you have?

Last week I added 2 small 4 inch fans from Walmart to my system. They were 6 dollars each. I set them up blowing across the top of my tank when the lights are on. I really didn't think they would do all that much, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. The temperature difference with them on is about 7 degrees! I went back and purchased 2 more to put up for spares. I never thought I'd see my tank so cool. The fans are in a small blue box and say " Massey 4" High Velocity Fan" They are also virtually silent. I couldn't beleive they worked so well for only 6 dollars each. Good luck!
